How to Access Extra Dock Settings in elementary OS 6
Today I learnt how to access more Plank dock setting in elementary OS 6, and figured I’d pass on the knowledge. You can already access a clutch of dock config options in elementary OS using the System Settings > Desktop > Dock & Panel panel. This house options to change dock icon size, auto-hiding behaviour, and enable pressure reveal. But you can access even more dock settings in the distro without needing to install anything extra. The dock app used in elementary OS is Plank. On other distros it is easy to access Plank’s settings since you right-click on the

Linux Release Roundup: Cozy, Polychromatic, Latte Dock
There are a couple of notable Linux app updates I wanted to mention on the site, so I’ve dusted off my Linux Release Roundup (LRR) format to give them some time in the spotlight. Now, I haven’t written one of these for a few months. After publishing one in June I got 3 — THREE! — emails accusing me of “ripping off” other Linux blogs. ‘OMG’, the critics said, ‘you even use the same name!!1’. This is a mildly frustrating thing to get because I posted the first roundup specifically titled “Linux Release Roundup” on this site back in 2017

Install Pantheon Tweaks on elementary OS 6 to Access Hidden Settings
Planning on taking elementary OS 6 for a spin this weekend? If you are, there’s a handy third-party tool I think you should keep in mind. See, some Linux distros try to be all things to all people. They come with reams of settings, options, choice screens, dialogs — the works. elementary OS isn’t one of those. Its engineers have crafted a desktop experience they think works well as it is — and they’d rather you to use it the way it comes. The ‘couture’ approach is why elementary OS is popular. It isn’t just a collection of software, it’s

A Hybrid Clock/Now Playing Conky for Your Desktop
I’ve been looking for a decent “Now Playing” widget for my Ubuntu desktop for a while now, having been inspired by some Rainmeter setups I saw in a thread on Windows desktops. And I finally found one — but it took some searching. Now, I appreciate that the days of showing your currently playing track on your actual desktop is are gone. It’s 2021, and most Linux desktop environments (including GNOME, which Ubuntu uses) support MPRIS controls in some form or another. Standalone now playing ‘widgets’ (like the much-missed CoverGloobus, pictured as part of a particularly impressive desktop below) are
