A project was started here in 2014 and has been carried out by Guard Agriculture Research and Services in collaboration with Chinese Yuan Longping High Tech Agriculture Company.

Re With assistance from Yuan's team, a hybrid crop variety produced a harvest of 10.8 tonnes per hectare in Madagascar, far exceeding the yield of local rice. And the average yield of the hybrid rice planted in Kenya is four to five times greater than conventional varieties.
Since the 1980s, Yuan's team has offered training courses in dozens of countries in Africa, the Americas and Asia -- providing a robust food source in areas with a high risk of famine.
#YuanLongping was known for developing the first hybrid rice in the 1970s. Hybrid rice has since been grown in dozens of countries in Africa, America, and Asia.
Re Four asteroids and a college in China have been named after #YuanLongping. Yuan won the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award of China in 2000. He was leading China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center. He was a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
#YuanLongping was awarded Order of the Republic in 2019.
