Linux Mint Takes Over Development of Timeshift
Linux Mint is taking over development of Timeshift, the popular open-source backup tool it ships with out of the box. Anyone familiar with Mint will be familiar with the utility. Timeshift is, as the distro’s own lead Clement Lefebvre says in the latest monthly update, a central plank in the system’s backup and update ‘strategy’. Sadly, as happens, the original creator of Timeshift is unable to continue working on it due to other responsibilities. Not keen to see it stagnate, Mint ‘got in touch with him’ to see if they could help. Long story short, Linux Mint is assuming maintenance

Firefox 101 Released with Only Minor Changes
With celebrations for its centenary release done and dusted it’s back to basics for the Firefox development team. Releasing today is Mozilla Firefox 101, a stable release update packing a couple of minor new features but a boatload of bug and security fixes. Canonical Details Plans to Make the Firefox Snap, Snappier

Plex’s New Linux App is Available as a Snap
Plex fans may be interested to hear an official Plex desktop app for Linux is now available to install from the Snap Store. Plex shared the news of its desktop app update in a blog post today, writing “…as of today Plex HTPC goes live as the true spiritual successor to [Plex Media Player] TV mode,” the media streaming service’s much-loved but aged desktop app. The Plex Desktop app is already available on macOS and Windows, so this is the first time it has been widely available on Linux desktops. Productive Summer Planned for Pitivi Video Editor
Any list of Linux video editors would be incomplete if it didn’t include Pitivi. I have a real soft spot for this oft-overlooked GTK & GStreamer based non-linear video editor. It’s inherently stable, has a clean, ordered UI, and diligently focuses on ensuring the ‘basics’ of video editing (cutting, arranging, simple effects, simple transitions, etc) are catered for.
